Vallsta is a new pattern for 2023 inspired by the beautiful hand printed patterns on the walls of the Unesco heritage site Gästgivars Decorated Farmhouse. This way of hand printing walls was commonly used all around the area of Hälsingland in Sweden – travelling artists decorated the walls instead of using wallpaper which was too expensive at the time. On the last pictures you can see two of the walls that inspired the pattern. These were on the top floor of one of the houses, an area used for village partys, weddings etc. More information on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Decorated farmhouses of Hälsingland (Hälsingegårdar in Swedish).
The hat is knitted on an electronic, manually operated knitting machine in my studio in Hälsingland. The inside of the folded brim is knitted from soft, mulesing-free merino wool to ensure maximum softness against the ears.
Color: Melange orange crown with a patterned, folded brim in light purple and purple. Spring-green embroidery along the edge.
Materials: Soft, mulesing-free merino wool and soft lambswool. Cotton label and a laser-cut birch veneer tag.
Size: 20 cm high, 52 cm around the ears.
Care: Hand wash with liquid wool detergent. Hang to dry and steam iron on the wool setting. The hat gains more texture after washing, which can be smoothed out with a steam iron.
