All the shops and restaurants on Fjäderholmarna open on the 4th of May and the island is transformed from the quiet winter time to a bustling summer time destination. The change is amazing, and right now, the island is slowly waking up with all the shops and restaurants getting ready for the change of seasons.
If you have been to Stockholm, you know how beautiful the city is with all it’s separate islands connected by bridges giving you a view of green forested areas and water – everywhere. The summer here is fantastic with long days, lots of sunshine and parks and waterways to enjoy yourself in. Sometimes the life in the city gets busy, even though Stockholm only has around a million inhabitants. This is one reason I am so excited about opening up this new shop on Stora Fjäderholmen. There are cliffs you can swim from, meadows to hang out in with a picnic, and lots to see, in a very small area. Aside from that, you also have a selection of restaurants and shops to visit, which gives the island a feel of being a small town.
In the map here you can see the layout of the island. At the bottom is where the docks are, and the jetty where sailing boats can stay the night. This is where you arrive at the island in the summer. In old style red wooden houses you find Fjäderholmarnas Bryggeri, a micro brewery producing their own beer (don’t miss their sampling tray of four selected beers), as well as Fjäderholmarnas Choklad where they make artisan chocolats with Scandinavian flavours.
There are four restaurants on the island, and you can read about them here. The information is in English but you can go through to their websites and see what they have to offer!
