Nejlika Mittens Knitting Kit – ENG + SWE

26.15

Intricately patterned mittens with the pattern Nejlika (coronation). The Nejlika pattern you can also find on my machine knitted cardigans, shawls and hats. The mittens have a moss stitch, striped cuff, a scandinavian thumb gusset and a pointy top.

The Nejlika pattern is inspired by tightly knitted folk jackets found in Edsbyns Museum in the North of Sweden. Coronations are very common in woven and knitted textiles all over this part of Sweden.

Observe: Please choose which colourway you want: Dark Red / Silver or Blue / Cream. This kit includes yarn and pattern. Please contact elmina.fors@gmail.com if you would like some double pointed needles suitable for the pattern.

Contents

  • Knitting instructions in English & Swedish with detailed pictures & directions for the techniques used
  • Knitting pattern in colour
  • 100g 2 ply wool yarn + 10g contrast colour.
  • In the instructions you also find helpful tips on how to get your tension right when doing colour knitting and how to finish and wash the mittens.

Recommended needles: 5 x double pointed needles, 12-20 cm long, 2,5mm or 3mm (not included). If you usually knit quite tight stitches, use the larger size needles.

The wool yarn is two-ply 100% Swedish wool yarn from Järbo Garn. Spun and dyed by Klippans Yllefabrik in Latvia.

Techniques in the pattern

Cast on with 2 colours, 2 colour stranded knitting, knit & purl stitches, yarn over and twisted stitches, knit 2 together with a left – and right-leaning direction.

Washing / Finishing

When you have knitted the mittens and attached all the threads, wash with a little wool detergent in cool water, rinse and squeeze out of the water. In order for the mitt to get the right shape – use a mitt blocker or shape the mitt by hand when it is wet. Allow to air dry. Information about this can be found in the printed knitting pattern.

Exchange & Returns

The knitting kit can only be exchanged or returned if all contents are unchanged / unused. If yarn is wound up in a ball, the kit cannot be returned.
