Description
Nejlika Cardigan is a loose, longer cardigan knitted in Shetland wool and soft lambswool. The cardigan has a shawl collar with buttons along the front. Insides of sleeve cuffs are knitted in softer lambswool to prevent itchy wrists, and folded with hand stitching.
The pattern Nejlika:
This pattern is inspired by a visit to Edsbyn Museum, about 20 minutes away from my new hometown in Hälsingland. “Nejlika” translates to “carnation” in English and is a common flower to use in knitted and woven patterns in the area. In the Museum you can find a few short jackets – the body sewn in woven wool fabric and the sleeves finely knitted and patterned with carnations. This way, an expensive jacket could be repaired when worn out – you just knit new sleeves!
